Up the Flatiron!

Oh my, this was a challenge!  Our next hiking adventure was the Flatiron trail.  Located in the Superstitions, the trail begins as Siphon Draw.  Traveling about 2 miles, gaining about 1000 feet of elevation, it's a good hike all by itself.  We all made it that far.  From there, Gail and Connie headed back and Ivy, Susan and Craig proceeded up.  And UP it was.  Gaining 1761 feet of elevation in just eight-tenths of a mile, the trail up to the Flatiron itself was crazy! Lots of scrambling over piles of boulders, carefully crossing sections of slick rock and even a 12 foot wall didn't stop us.  We made it to the top, and then began the tricky descent.  Lots of sore muscles for the next 2 days, but we did it!

Piestewa Peak - Summit Trail

February 2, another great day for a hike!  We climbed Piestewa Peak.  That's 2.4 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 1180 feet.  Lots of big rocky steps, kind of like a monster stairmaster :)
Piestewa (Squaw) Peak - The steeper the better, right?

January 26th, a perfect day for hiking.  Today we traveled the Peralta Trail in the Superstitions.  About 5 miles round trip, a 1400 foot elevation gain.  Places this pretty make it easy to hike!

The beautiful Peralta trail!

A gorgeous day and a fabulous view!
Yes, Connie's leaning on Weaver's Needle!

Who knew prepping could be so much fun!

Here's the plan:  Friday April 6th we plan to hike down the South Kaibab Trail to the bottom of the canyon then immediately back out on the Bright Angel Trail.  That is 16.2 miles in one day.  Maybe we are crazy.  We're going to do it anyway.

Our first hike was simple.  January 20th.  Wind Caves at Usury Park.  Round trip 3.2 miles.  Elevation gain 820 feet.  When we got to the top we thought about how at the Grand Canyon we would be looking at 8 more miles up.  Hmmmm.
